About this tour

RealNZ (formerly Real Journeys) has been running Milford since 1954 and picked up Air New Zealand's Supreme Tourism Award in 2024. Their Queenstown coach + cruise uses a glass-roof coach with photo stops along Lake Whakatipu, Te Anau, Mirror Lakes and the Homer Tunnel — driver commentary throughout.

At Milford you board a RealNZ Classic Catamaran, the largest boat operating on the fiord (up to 180 passengers). Trade-off: less small-boat intimacy than Mitre Peak or Cruise Milford, but the most stable ride if you're prone to motion sickness in the Tasman Sea section. Nature guides narrate the wildlife, geology and preservation story.

On board: barista coffee, craft beer, a licensed bar and lunch options for purchase — bring your own if you'd rather. Return to Queenstown around 19:30.

About this tour

Board the Milford Mariner at 16:00 and cruise to a sheltered anchorage in Harrison Cove — the classic Milford overnight. The day-tripper crowd is gone by then, and you get the fiord to yourself for kayaking, tender-boat exploration or (if you're brave) a swim off the boat.

Dinner is a carvery buffet prepared onboard by the chef. Ensuite twin/double cabins are standard; budget quad-share bunks are cheapest. Nature-guide commentary in English covers the fiord's geology, wildlife and preservation story.

Overnight the boat stays at anchor in the sheltered cove. Continental breakfast, then a morning cruise back out to the Tasman Sea (weather permitting) before disembarking at 09:15.

Trade-off vs. Fiordland Discovery Jewel: Mariner is roughly a third of the Jewel's price, three times the guests, no hot tub — but runs year-round and has the classic Milford overnight experience nailed.
